Veterans Council Of Hillsborough County, Inc

The Veterans' Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. was formerly known as Allied War Veterans of Hillsborough County, Florida, Inc., and was originally chartered in the Circuit Court of Hillsborough County, Florida on the 21st day of March, A.D., 1955.

Ten years later, the Allied War Veterans became "The Veterans' Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. when it received non-profit corporation status on the 8th day of April, A.D., 1965.

VISION and Moto

The Vision of the Veterans' Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. (VCHC) was to be a collaborative and unifying representative organization in Hillsborough County Florida that upholds the ideals, principles, and traditions of military service and support. The Moto became "Lest we Forget".

The Partnership

In 1980, in an effort to bring more visibility and acknowledgement of the value of the military citizens of Hillsborough County, members of the VCHC and other advocates launched an effort to develop a "Veterans" Park. The concept for a Veterans Park became a reality in 1986 when a small property known as "Tis-A-Wee Day Use Park and Bike Path" was acquired by Hillsborough County.

In the early 1990's, county leaders constructed Veterans Memorial Park Museum and developed a plan to provide patriotic events at the park for the community. Agreements were made between county government and the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County to perform these events on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners.

This partnership has endured to current times along with acquisition of additional property, construction of multiple memorials, a Veterans Resource Center, Education Cultural Center and an Amphitheater plus future plans for improving the property.

Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral Leroy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum (renamed on October 20, 2010) is now considered "Home" for the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc
